Discuss Employee Spotlight – Alex
The “Discuss Employee Spotlight” is a Q&A series dedicated to showcasing all of the amazing talent at Discuss.
For this month’s profile, we talked with Alex DeCarlo, AI Product Manager, who joined the Discuss team in December of 2024 and is based in Roebuck, South Carolina.
- Tell our readers a little bit about your role at Discuss.
I am a Product Manager here at Discuss. In my role, I figure out what we are going to build and why we are going to build it. I then work with the design and engineering teams to figure out how it will be built. My primary goal is to deliver outcomes for our customers that keep them using our platform, enabling them to perform their jobs quickly and efficiently.
- Which of Discuss’ core values are you most inspired by? (Empathize, Collaborate, Obsess, Out Innovate, Excel)
They are all excellent, but as a Product manager, I have to choose Empathize. In my role, I have to put myself in the shoes of the customer and really empathize with the problem they are trying to solve. We can’t just build features for the sake of building features; we have to provide real value to our customers in order to keep them on our platform. I do my best to really get to know the problem and then focus on outcomes that will drive value for the customer.
- Tell us about your mindset and approach in your role.
My approach goes hand in hand with the last question regarding empathy. My approach is to always put myself in the customer’s shoes. I really want to understand the problem they want to solve, and then I need to deliver outcomes that help them do their job better.
- What project or initiative are you most proud of at Discuss?
I am most proud of the AI Champions group here at Discuss. We have done a lot to try and help the entire organization learn more about AI. We are focused on thinking about big ideas, fostering creativity, and enhancing company policies and procedures around AI. I know that not everyone has the time or the interest to follow all the latest AI innovations on the market, so I hope that the efforts of our AI Champions will help keep them informed and spark some creativity.
- What is something unique about you (a fun fact) that few people know about?
I really enjoy woodworking. I have built several pieces that my wife has used in decorating our home. My biggest project was building our dining room table. It was a lot of work, but it is really enjoyable and rewarding.
