Back Room

In traditional focus group research conducted in brick-and-mortar premises, the back room is a literal room where researchers, clients and other stakeholders listen and observe the qualitative research being conducted, live. The room is traditionally hidden from the observed focus group by a one-way mirror. In online qualitative research, the back room is the technology used to observe the video interview, without being seen by the participants. Multiple back room participants may chat to themselves in their own private text chat, and may send private messages to the moderator
